Kate Shaw

CertMRCSLT

Kate qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Speech Pathology and Therapy from the University of Manchester in 1997. Since qualifying she has worked in a variety of settings including community clinics, mainstream schools and language units in both London and Bristol. Kate has experience of working with children presenting with speech delay/disorder, DVD (Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia), receptive and expressive language delay and Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). She is also trained to carry out the Lidcombe Program of Early Stuttering Intervention.

Kate is Operations manager for ChildSpeech and provides initial telephone consultations for parents and schools. She is a licenced Talk Boost trainer for I CAN.

Lexi-Jo Madge

CertMRCSLT

Lexi-Jo graduated from the University College Plymouth St. Mark & St. John in 2012 with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy. She independently set up and developed the Speech and Language Therapy provision at Weston College, to help bridge the gap in providing appropriate support for post-16-year olds with speech, language and communication needs.

Lexi-Jo has a wide range of experience working with children and young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, speech and language delay/disorder, dysfluency, Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia, Autism, social communication difficulties, Selective Mutism, Gender Dysphoria and social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

She is a member of the South West Clinical Excellence Networks in Autism and Disorders of Fluency.

Joy Rondet CertMRCSLT

Joy qualified as a Speech and Language therapist from the University of Reading in 2005. Joy’s areas of special interest are Selective Mutism, Autism and supporting children and young people with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs.

Joy initially worked in the NHS and started working for Child Speech in 2017. Joy works 3 days a week in Special Schools in Bristol and Somerset and 2 days a week with children and young people on the Child Speech family caseload. Joy is part of Child Speech’s multi-disciplinary Autism Assessment Team.

Joy has experience working with children and young people aged 2 - 18 with a range of diagnoses/needs such as speech disorders, Developmental Language Disorder, Selective Mutism, Autistic Spectrum Condition, ADHD, Visual Impairment, trauma, attachment difficulties and learning difficulties.

Joy has completed additional training in Makaton, Hanen, Parent Child Interaction therapy, Selective Mutism, Social Stories, the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme, and in attachment and complex trauma.

Eva Rakszawska

Eva graduated from City University in London in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy. She has worked for the NHS in London for Whittington Health Trust, and in Bristol, and also has experience as a research assistant. Eva’s work in the NHS has given her a wealth of experience in working with a wide range of paediatric client groups including children with speech difficulties, selective mutism, language delay and disorders, children with learning difficulties, stammering, social communication difficulties and Autism. She has worked in collaboration with parents, educational staff in preschools, mainstream primary and secondary schools.Therapy sessions involve finding creative and fun ways to motivate the individual child to engage them in the therapy process.

Katie Hendrie

Katie graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (now known as Cardiff Metropolitan University) in 2003 with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy. She has 13 years experience working for the NHS in South Wales. During this time, she has worked with families at home, with independent nurseries, mainstream schools and special schools. Katie has a wide range of experience working with children with complex speech difficulties, developmental language disorder, delayed speech and/or language development and learning difficulties. Her special interests are complex speech disorders, developmental language disorder and Down Syndrome.

Katie also qualified as a Makaton Regional Tutor in 2015 and provides regular training for parents, teachers and other Educational and Health Professionals as part of her NHS role.

Philippa Hinds

Pip is a Speech and Language Therapist with 20 years experience specialising in pre school children with complex needs. She has a range of qualifications in Makaton, TalkTools, eating and drinking difficulties and autism spectrum condition.

Pip qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapeutics in 1993. She has nearly 20 years experience of working in the NHS with children and adults with complex needs in residential settings, specialist schools, units and Children’s Centres as well as mainstream nurseries, pre schools and schools. Pip has a range of post graduate qualifications in dysphagia and has been a Regional Makaton Trainer since 1996. She has also completed a course in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication Handicapped Children). Pip currently works part time in the NHS and carries out work for Childspeech work on Fridays, school holidays and weekends.

Sarah Lequesne

Sarah qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Pathology in 1993. She has worked in a range of settings and areas from Scotland to Australia and London to Bristol. She has been the clinical lead for autism spectrum for over 13 years and been part of an assessment and diagnostic team. In that time she has worked for over 8 years with pre- school complex communication needs. She has also been the lead for school age intervention and diagnosis up to secondary age. Recently she worked at Ruskin Mill for a few terms. She has worked in a range of settings from mainstream schools and nurseries and special needs schools, working with children aged 1-19 years old. Sarah has worked with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties, including speech sound impairment, language delay, specific language impairment, selective mutism, learning difficulties and autistic spectrum. Sarah is a licenced Talk Boost trainer for I CAN.

Sarah currently works part time for the NHS and carries out work for ChildSpeech during the week.

Cat Proom CertMRCSLT

Cat qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2005, with a BSc 1st Class Honours from City University London.

Cat works with younger children and their parents, providing assessment, therapy and coaching. She is passionate about the importance of play for learning language and communication skills. Cat aims to always work in a neurodiversity affirming way; she enjoys discovering the different ways each child learns and finds joy.

Cat has specialist skills using alternative communication alongside speech to support those who are non/minimally speaking or have not yet started using speech.

Cat has completed training in Parent Child Interaction, Elklan for preschool settings, Talking Mats, Makaton (Enhanced level 2011), Attention Autism and in 2014 Cat completed a masters module on Evidence Based Assessment in Complex Communication Needs. Cat is in the process of completing ADOS-2 training to assess and diagnose autism in children.

Luci Wright CertMRCSLT

Luci started her career as a Primary Teacher, English subject leader and Special Educational Needs Coordinator. She worked in education for 5 years before retraining as a Speech and Language Therapist. Luci graduated with an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Essex in 2013. She has worked in the NHS and in an independent practice in London for over 7 years. Luci has worked with preschool and school aged children in a range of settings including community clinics, children’s centres, nurseries, mainstream schools and language units. She has a range of experience of working with children and young people with speech sound disorders, Developmental Language Disorder, Autism, Learning Disability, stammering and Selective Mutism. Most recently, Luci has jointly managed an Early Start Speech Therapy team offering universal support to all children under 5 years of age.

Luci is a qualified Baby Makaton tutor and she has completed training in Makaton (levels 1-8), the Nuffield Dyspraxia programme and Parent Child Interaction (PCI).

Thais Cardon SLT

Thais qualified with a Masters degree in speech and language therapy from City, University of London in 2023 after getting a BA in English literature and Spanish from Exeter in 2020. She is interested in neurodivergence, dysphagia and bilingualism and has completed placements in a variety of school settings, an adult neurorehabilitation clinic and Great Ormond Street Hospital’s cleft palate clinic. She has also volunteered at an adult neurorehabilitation organisation.

Thais speaks fluent French, slightly rusty Spanish and is learning Mandarin. She is working full time at Childspeech in SEMH and mainstream school settings as well as seeing families individually.

Jane Drummond-Wilson CertMRCSLT

Jane has over 15 years experience of working as a Speech and Language Therapist, she qualified in 2006 with an MSC in Speech and Language Sciences from UCL. Since that time she has worked in a range of different clinical settings, including community clinics, special schools and specialised resource bases for children with hearing impairments and speech and language needs. Jane has experience of working with a wide range of client groups including delayed receptive and expressive language, Developmental Language Disorder(DLD), speech sound delays and disorders. Jane has always worked in some capacity with children who have a hearing impairment and has a keen interest in this area.

She is undergoing further training in Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) and is working towards becoming a certified practitioner. Jane works part time for the NHS as well as ChildSpeech.

Dr Suzanne Platt D.Clin.Psych

Suzanne works as part of the Child Speech team providing autism assessment.

Suzanne qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2016 from Salomon's, Canterbury Christchurch University and is currently working for the NHS offering psychological and therapeutic support for young people and their foster carers.

Suzanne has experience across a range of settings within Clinical Psychology including CAMHS (5-18 years), Learning Disability Teams (0-18 years), Child Development and Paediatric Services (0-11 years) and Child Looked After Services (0-25 years). Throughout this time, Suzanne has developed a special interest in neurodiversity and has extensive experience in completing complex neuro developmental and autism assessments for children, adolescents and young adults, ensuring that all aspects of their strengths, abilities and challenges are better understood.

Suzanne is registered to practice as a clinical psychologist with the Health Care Professionals Council: Membership number - PYL34154..

Anne-Marie Cray CertMRCSLT

Anne-Marie qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1989 , from City University, London. Anne-Marie has recently worked in community clinics, nurseries and mainstream schools. She was recently employed by a cluster of mainstream schools to provide support for children and deliver training for the staff. Over the years Anne-Marie has worked with children and young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties, including speech sound impairment, language delay, specific language impairment, and stammering. She has completed the following courses: Parent-Child Interaction, Lidcombe Programme and is a licensed I CAN Talk Boost and Primary talk tutor.

Anne-Marie coordinates all our schools work. She is a member of the South West Early Years and Disorders of Dysfluency Clinical Excellence Networks.

Liz Clements

Liz qualified with an MSc in Human Communication Science from University College London in 2006 after completing her BA in French and Italian at Warwick University in 2003. She has over 8 years experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS with children.

Liz has extensive experience of working with bilingual families. She is able to speak French to a high level and can speak conversational Spanish and Italian. She has a level 1 British Sign Language qualification and has trained to Enhancement level in Makaton. She has also completed PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Parent-Child Interaction, Intensive Interaction, Selective Mutism and Lidcombe training and has qualifications in assessment and treatment of dysphagia (swallowing difficulties). Liz is a licenced Talk Boost trainer for I CAN. She has a special interest and has gained higher level qualifications for working with selective mutism and children with complex needs.

Liz currently works full time for the NHS at Bristol Children’s Hospital and carries out work with ChildSpeech in her spare time.

Rosemarie Hayhow

FRCSLT

Rosemarie Hayhow qualified as a speech and language therapist over 40 years ago and completed a Masters in Human Communication in 1975 (University of London). She became interested in stammering early in her career and has since worked with children and adults who stammer in a variety of settings. As a founder member of the Lidcombe Program Trainers’ Consortium she has trained therapists in the UK and Europe and has considerable experience of using this approach with young children who stammer. In the Lidcombe Program the SLT guides the parents on how best to help their child’s talking at home. Parents’ experiences of using this treatment were the subject of Rosemarie’s PhD awarded in 2008 by the University of the West of England.

Rosemarie is an advisor to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and to the British Stammering Association. In 2009 she was made a fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in recognition of her contribution to the field of stammering.
